Dr. BS Balapriya is a dedicated Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon with comprehensive training in general surgery and breast oncology. She earned her MBBS and M.S. in General Surgery from Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Chennai, and began her medical career as a Junior Resident at Thiruvannamalai Government Medical College.

After her postgraduate training, she pursued an observership in Surgical Oncology at the Cancer Institute (W.I.A), Adyar, where she later served as a Surgical Registrar. She further honed her expertise in Breast Oncoplastic Surgery as a Senior Registrar at the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Chennai, and also underwent training in “Basics in Breast Radiology” at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore.

Currently, Dr. Balapriya serves as a Consultant Breast Surgeon at the Chennai Breast Centre, where she provides comprehensive care for both benign and malignant breast conditions. Her key areas of interest include breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic and reconstructive techniques, and holistic breast health management. She is deeply committed to offering compassionate, evidence-based, and individualized patient care.

Dr. Balapriya is a proud member of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) and the Association of Breast Surgeons of India (ABSI).

Awards & Achievements

Best Poster Award (3rd Prize) for “Mucinous Adenocarcinoma in a Chronic Complex Fistula-in-Ano – A Rare Presentation” at ASICON 2020 (Dec 17–19).

2nd Place in the “MDT with the Masters” session for presenting “Pregnancy-Associated Triple Negative Breast Carcinoma” at MABCON 2025, the MGM Annual Breast Conference, Chennai.

Publications & Research

Published a case report titled “A Rare Case of Malignant Transformation of Keratinous Cyst in the Gluteal Region”in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research (March 2021).

Conducted a postgraduate thesis on “Evaluation of Serum Procalcitonin as a Prognostic Biomarker in Acute Pancreatitis – A Cross-Sectional Study.”
